Model Style: Natasha Poly

By Jennifer Ennis

The best dressed model right now hands down!

Even if you are not familiar with the modelling world, you may recognise pretty Natasha from H&M's latest 'Garden Collection' campaign, the Gucci S/S 2010 campaign or the million and one runway shows she walked for this season like many others!

She is quickly gaining a admirable reputation for her own personal style also. In short, Natasha looks amazing both on AND off the catwalk! Her style is original, feminine and edgy. She's wears a lot of black (model uniform) but dabbles with colour also. She dresses to suit her shape and is both fashionable yet wearable.

Really, fashion's golden girl can just do no wrong...

Ad Campaign: Alexander McQueen Eyewear SS10

By Jennifer Ennis

On the same sad day that we learned the tragic in-depth details of McQueen's death, this striking image pops in to my e-mail inbox - his S/S 2010 Eyewear campaign.

I love it.

It features his symbolic skull wearing the Flock Salmon sunglasses against the prettiest pink, cream and red background. Visually, it's amazing. The contrast is disturbing and wonderful. Another shocking yet creatively beautiful image from the mastermind himself.
A bittersweet day.

Chanel: Chance Eau Tendre

By Jennifer Ennis

New favourite perfume! A mix of White Musk, Jasmine (a fave) and grapefruit makes the most beautiful, youthful summer scent. I'm addicted to it!

Jared's Jacket

By Jennifer Ennis

I must admit, I am an admirer of Jared Followill from Kings of Leon. Not just for his handsome looks, sarcastic sense of humour and great music taste but also his brilliant sense of style! KOL have their signature look of skinny jeans, boots, leather jackets and plaid shirts but its Jared's look that has always stood out for me.

He has some amazing jackets/coats and I immediately fell for this one he wore to the Rag & Bone AW 2010 show in New York in February. After much research, I discovered it is in fact the All Saints Cohen Coat (£295/$390). One of my favourite brands. Ah, a man really after my own heart...

Influenced by: Alexander Wang

By Jennifer Ennis
(written for WhatSheWears.ie)

Alexander Wang SS 10
Cute-as-a-button New York designer Alexander Wang has been on the fashion radar for a while but it was his Spring/Summer 2010 collection that really made editors sit up and take note.

Wang’s celebration of American sportswear and soft leather created a playful yet strong woman. If you’re looking to re-create the looks without the designer prices, don’t panic as Wang has contributed to many trends you can see all over the high street right now.

Open toe ankle boots
The Wang boot got everybody talking! Open toe and ankle length in black leather featuring a variety of zips, laces and turn downs; they are a statement boot and give a great edge to any outfit.

River Island have a brilliant copy called The Peep Toe Zip boots priced £64.99/€85 and All Saints have a stylish laced up version called the Avanta Boot. Dorothy Perkins had a direct look-a-like but they sold out in record time!

Nude and Tan Leather
Nude leather is a new and pleasant surprise trend this Spring/Summer. Wang kept his leather soft, in block colours of nude and tan and completely seamless. He matched leather shorts with crop tops for sportswear cool.

The most wearable nude leather buys right now are Karen Millen’s leather gillet (€299) and Wallis’s leather top (€85) – but hurry they are selling fast!

Loungewear
Wang’s comfy loungewear was a brilliant contrast with the high heeled boots. There were lots of cotton sweaters, crop tops and dresses, perfect for the summer season.

Reiss and Topshop have a great selection of cotton sweaters in particular Reiss’s Starlight grey sweatshirt style lurex knit (£110/€140).

Alexander Wang Hair and Makeup
Wang sent every model down the runway sporting the ‘Alexander Wang plait’ a fun new hair trend that has been echoed by everyone from Kate Bosworth to Lauren Conrad.

This cute, girly look is very simple. It just requires a little bit of back-combing and hair spray (I recommend L’Oreal’s Elnet). The key is not to look too styled so don’t spend ages doing it. The more relaxed and loose, the better! It’s a beautiful look for both day and night.

The ‘no make up’ make up look is youthful and refreshing this spring. Awaken tired skin with YSL’s Top Secrets Flash Radiance Skincare Brush (€51) and apply a tinted moisturiser. Laura Mercier’s has been a cult fave for a while now and is available from Brown Thomas and Harvey Nichols in a number of shades.

A tinted moisturiser is great for giving you a healthy glow and smoothing out your skin tone without looking cakey. Ditch the eyeshadow and eyeliner and wear mascara alone for a flawless and beautiful Alexander Wang inspired face!

Coachella 2010 Fashion

By Jennifer Ennis

My dream festival and one I must make it to one year, Coachella, took place in sunny California over the weekend with not just an amazing line up but also a star-studded and ultra fashionable turnout!

All the hipsters and cool kids were in attendance and the fashion ranged from festival chic (Alexa Chung) to festival clueless (Dita Von Teese) to festival shameless (Pixie Geldof).

Alexa Chung (above, left) looked amazing in a yellow jumpsuit, army green cardi and her beloved LK Bennett espadriles. She always looks effortlessly good. The festival showcased Agyness Dean's (above, right) transformation and quite frankly I hate it! Deemed her 'lezzer style', the stunning model has shaved her head and while there is no doubt her face is as pretty as ever, herself and Henry Holland made quite the pair wandering around. It must be said Holland looked much better than his model muse.

Dita Von Teese (above, left) wore a number of unusual-and-not-very-festival-but-totally-her outfits, the most memorable being navy nautical trousers with gold buttons and a white cone-bra top. Von Teese has good taste in music and impeccable style but her adaptive skills are not the best. Kate Hudson (above, right) on the other hand looked young and fresh in a cute and simple vest and mini skirt with ankle boots and every festival's must have, snazzy sunglasses.

Whitney Port (above, left) was both elegant and quirky in patterned shorts and top with black flat laced ankle boots that emphasised her remarkable pins. Whit's hair was California golden as it hung loose in all its sun-kissed and natural glory. Pixie Geldof (above, right) was tacky as ever, I mean classy as ever in a pair of black shorts, black lace-up boots and a white t-shirt with various pictures of a male's neither regions. Bet her father is so proud!

There were plenty of star couples around. The best looking being model Rosie Huntington-Whitely (above, left - who's style I am adoring lately) and new man Jason Statham. Rosie wore a gorgeous blue dress and teamed it with her beloved Isabel Marant boots. The most bizzare looking couple were Kelly Osbourne and her fella, Luke (above, right). Kelly's wardrobe for the weekend was very Granny-like even down to her strange blue-rinse hair colour.

Kings Of Leon's Jared Followill (above, left) showed off a new short haircut which I have to say I have mixed feelings about but still think him to be one of the world's best looking men. Matt Smith and Andrew Garfield (above, right) were a mixture of festival trilby hats, plaid shirts and... white necklaces.

Of course the wonderful Katy Perry (above, left) looked gorgeous and fun all weekend in a number of short minidresses. Sadly her fiancè, Russell Brand was nowhere to be seen. Brit ladies Daisy Lowe and Florence Welch (above, right) mixed a great sixties and boho vibe to be two of the most fashionable girlies there!

There were a tonne of others worth mentioning also but I would be here all day discussing Coachella fashion! Overall it was mix of crazy and gorgeous in a beautiful sunny environment. I really envy anyone attending a festival in hot countries as their fashion choices are unlimited, whereas us poor Oxegen and Electric Picnic go-ers are restricted in our macs and wellies. Still it never stops the fun and here's hoping for a bit of sun this year!

Music: The Jane Shermans

By Jennifer Ennis

I know this is a fashion and beauty blog but I am also a major music-head and I just HAD to write about my new love, The Jane Shermans.

Haling from music capital Nashville, Tennessee the band consists of legendary producer Angelo Petraglia (Grammy winner who produced all four Kings Of Leon albums) and Eulene Sherman (think a younger, hotter Courtney Love). I downloaded their debut album, Popular Music Social Condition on iTunes for €8 after stumbling across 'I Walk Alone' on YouTube and falling in love! The 11-track album is one of the most fun albums I have ever owned and I listen to it on average twenty times a week at least!

They have a great, very radio-friendly poppy rock sound and every song on the album could be a single. My faves include 'I Walk Alone' ,'My Yellow Dress','Popular Music Social Condition','Domino' and 'Wonder Where You Are' which is possibly the most beautiful lullaby ever written. Every song is super catchy and there are no skippers. It was produced by Angelo, engineered by Roger Moutenot (Yo La Tengo), and mixed by Jacquire King (Modest Mouse). The album recording also features Jared Followill (Kings of Leon) on the bass, while Eulene plays the bass at the live shows. So far, they tend to gig mostly around Nashville and surrounding cities. I would love to catch them live somewhere someday.

Check out their Myspace page to listen to four tracks from the album, http://www.myspace.com/thejaneshermans or check out the little promo below...

Listen to this band! They are seriously so good!

Beauty Love: Rimmel Lipstick

By Jennifer Ennis

I have recently embraced lipsticks as I earlier blogged about but until a few weeks ago, I had only splashed out on a few Chanel ones. However after further browsing I came to realise how boring the Chanel packaging is (yes, I said it!) so I trotted over to Rimmel London for some funky pink and purple tubes!

The Colour Show Off range has the most gorgeous pink container (and I LOVE Georgia May Jagger in the ad campaign) but the colours were a bit too ta-dah for me. After deciding that I should give serious thought to the shade too and purchase one different from what I already own I picked the 'Nude Delight' shade of the Moisture Renew Lipstick.

The colour is perfect for my skin tone and it looks great with a smoky eye on a night out. The texture is really creamy and non-drying. If I ever want a slight gloss I just out a bit of MAC's Lip Conditioner on top. The tube looks so gorgeous in my bag oh and it is a total bargain at roughly €7! Will be returning to Rimmel London again...

Ad Campaign: Loewe SS 2010

By Jennifer Ennis

I. Love. Daria. Werbowy.

The gorgeous Daria is without a doubt my favourite model (Freja a very close second) and her new Loewe Spring/Summer 2010 campaign is just magnificent!

This woman has an amazing ability to rock so many different looks as if she was born that way. Her figure is unbelievable and off camera, she is so friendly and down to earth. A usual regular on the Balmain catwalk, she was noticeably missed from all the runways this season but has instead racked up an impressive amount of campaigns - Loewe, DSquared, H&M, Isabel Marant and of course Balmain to name a few. Cannot wait for more.

Am obsessed with...

By Jennifer Ennis

My River Island lace up boots, €101.

I'm a huge lover of Balmain's military boot (see below) and these high street gems are the nearest I can get to them. They are also nicer than AllSaints's version. They saw me through a busy shopping trip in London (admitedly it was quite a workout at times) and while attending a short course at London College of Fashion they turned more heads than any other footwear I own! They go with almost everything and immediately make an outfit young and edgy. I have mostly been wearing them with black skinny jeans, leggings and tights. They give me great height, make my legs really long and keep me lovely and warm! Everyone from Kate Moss to Alexa Chung have been snapped in lace up boots this season and they look great with jumpsuits (another new fave), dresses and jeans. I cannot recommend them enough! I am going to be living in mine.

RIP Malcolm McLaren

By Jennifer Ennis

A sad day for music and fashion lovers with the passing of Malcolm McLaren who lost his battle with cancer aged just 64.

Malcolm and his ex partner, design legend Vivienne Westwood (who coincidently turned 70 today) can be hailed for heavily influencing the 70s punk era and creating a new wave of fashion, considered so shocking at the time yet still completely vibrant forty years later. Their son Joseph Corrè founded lingerie brand Agent Provocateur.

Rest in Peace Malcolm.

New Beauty Faves

By Jennifer Ennis

Crème De La Mer - The Lip Balm

Purchased this beauty in Selfridges in London for £36/€40 which is almost a whopping twenty bucks less than Brown Thomas! The smell is gorgeous - minty and very refreshing. It works really well and leaves lips so soft. The packaging is very cute and it feels great to finally own some of this ultra luxury brand! Now once I've started though, I won't be able to stop. Hello €120+ moisturiser...

CoverGirl - LashBlast Mascara

Have been wearing this for two weeks now and it is without doubt the best mascara I have ever used in my entire life. After curling, I apply a small amount of this to my lashes and it lasts all day long. I have never ever had lashes like this! They are long, curled and completely defined. It is also waterproof. I bought this in New York and as it is not avaliable in Ireland, I have already purchased from an excellent eBayer who shipped it first class from Florida and threw in an extra lipliner - all for €10! This is an amazing buy and I don't think I will ever need to change.

Tesco - Make Up Remover Wipes

I am actually not joking. This is the only thing that will easily remove above said mascara! I usually prefer to use liquid eye make up remover but CoverGirl's LashBlast is so stubborn I had to resort to these wipes which take it off quickly and easily with no rubbing or tugging required. I use the sensitive ones and it is as cheap as chips.

Vogue UK: Gwyneth Paltrow

By Jennifer Ennis

Gwynnie is the cover star of May's Vogue UK and I don't know why but... I'm not a fan. I like Ms Paltrow. I like her hair, her style, how she keeps her private life private, I agree with her rants on chemicals etc but this cover does not do her justice.

It's the make up I think. Gorgeous blonde hair, lightly mineral made up face and... cheap black eyeliner! Gwyneth's eyebrows are fair and the eyeliner just looks out of place and takes from an otherwise very soft and feminine look. Val Garland, you messed up! I also don't like the orange writing (though it looks better on the computer screen then real life) but I like the inside shots (all by Mario Testino).

Inside I love Tim Blanks's portrait of McQueen, Constance's and Karlie's gorgeous editorials and Jemima Khan's very witty piece on online shopping...

Model Style

By Jennifer Ennis

It must be said, some of our most striking high fashion models are just as gorgeous and stylish off the runway as they are on it! The 'model off duty' style has always been an obsession of mine - casual yet chic and totally bare faced.

Here are my best dressed leading ladies from the last two months...

Freja Beja Erichsen

Natasha Poly

Ruby Aldridge

Chanel Iman

Sigh, Marlon Teixeira...

By Jennifer Ennis

What better way to begin April than with two photos of my male model crush, Brazilian god Marlon Teixeira! The above is from his Vila Romana Fall/Winter 2010 campaign and the below is from his 7th Man Magazine editorial. I am conscious this is my third post mentioning him however so I promise to keep them limited. He is just so handsome...
